5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
I've been very active in this area of the NETS-T in the last two years. I've presented at the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) three times, twice at regional conferences and once at the national conference in Washington, DC. I've also presented at a number of local educational technology conferences, the annual CUE conference, and the Hawaii International Conference in Education (HICE).
I've also attended conferences such as The New York Times' Schools for Tomorrow, Evaluating Online Faculty, The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE), and keynotes by Sir Ken Robinson (above), Sal Kahn, Jane McGonical, and Levar Burton, among others.
At each of these conferences, I attended panels on many different educational technology topics from iPad apps and iMovie trailers to Minecraft and gamification.
This spring, I've been participating in a workshop with NILOA, the National Institute of Learning Outcomes Assessment. They are creating an assignments library to be housed on their website, and are working with faculty to provide exemplars of rubrics tied to typical assignments.
In addition, my position as an Associate Dean of Undergraduate Education affords me a number of leadership opportunities such as chairing the Liberal Studies Curriculum Team, the General Education Team (a university-wide committee), to coordinate the Portfolio Learning Assessment program, the Associate of Arts Degree, and the Experiential Learning program (including internships). As Brandman University is a distributed system, with faculty spread out among 27 campuses and additional co-locations, most of our work is conducted virtually through the use of Adobe Connect.
