Melanie Borrego serves as an Associate professor of English and the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education in the School of Arts and Sciences at Brandman University. A division of Chapman University and a private, not for profit institution, Brandman University provides online and blended classes to approximately 10,000 adult learners at 26+ campuses across California and Washington. In this role, Dr. Borrego is responsible for supporting faculty and students, assessment of student learning, online campus scheduling, the recruitment, development, and mentoring of adjunct faculty, and General Education program development. She is the Coordinator for the Associate of Arts Degree and the BA in Applied Studies Degree programs as well as the Prior Learning Assessment and Experiential Learning programs. She is the Chair of the General Education Team (a university-wide committee), as well as a curriculum designer for and General Education Representative on Brandman's Competency-Based Education (CBE) Program Council.
Dr. Borrego has a long-term commitment to supporting educational innovation through participation in such organizations as the International Society of Technology in Education (ISTE) and its California affiliate CUE, the American Association of Academic Deans (ACAD), and the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U). She has given presentations on using the Lumina Degree Qualifications Profile (DQP) in the creation of an AA degree and Essential Learning Outcomes (ELOs), Brandman's Competency-Based Degree Program, and leveraging technology to integrate remediation support in gateway writing courses.
